Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Mr. Burnett was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of John J. and Margaret Louise (Siesseger) Burnett. He graduated from Holy Family High School in Mason City in 1945. He then enlisted and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He married Kathleen M. Maiers on Oct. 6, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated from Loras College in Dubuque with a bachelor of science degree in economics. He was employed with Chicago Great Western Railroad in Oelwein, Iowa, for 18 years. The couple then relocated to Sioux City, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. Mrs. Burnett died Aug. 11, 1994, in Sioux City. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a former member of Cathedral of the Epiphany. He had served as a lector at both churches. He was active in both the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of Toastmasters and a past board member of the Siouxland Chapter of the Epilepsy Foundation of America. He was an avid reader. Survivors include two sons, Chuck Burnett and his wife, Marian, and Michael Burnett, all of Sioux City; three brothers and their wives, Bill and Kay Burnett of Bella Vista, Ark., Tom and Bev Burnett of Northfield, Minn., and Joe and Jane Ann Burnett of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Theresa and her husband, Andy, Brad, Steven, Staci and John; and a special friend, Frances Schon of Sioux City. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John "Jack" Burnett Jr.; and his stepfather, Morrie Miller. Sioux City Journal - Jun 16, 2004
