Description	:	Patrick J. "Joe" Mindrup was born April 13, 1923, in Norton County, Kansas, to Al and Marie (Costello) Mindrup. He passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Prairie Senior Living Center in Colby, Kansas, at the age of 88. Joe and his siblings were raised on the family farm near New Almelo. He attended grade school in New Almelo and high school in Leoville, and Joe was valedictorian of his class. He continued his education at Benedictine College in Atchinson for one year. "Joe" Mindrup was born April 13, 1923, in Norton County, Kansas, to Al and Marie (Costello) Mindrup. He passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Prairie Senior Living Center in Colby, Kansas, at the age of 88. Joe and his siblings were raised on the family farm near New Almelo. He attended grade school in New Almelo and high school in Leoville, and Joe was valedictorian of his class. He continued his education at Benedictine College in Atchinson for one year. In 1956, Joe married Rachel Hickert in New Almelo. They were the parents of five children and made their home on the farm where he was born and raised. Rachel preceded him in death. Joe was united in marriage to Barbara (Schroeder) Olberding in 1979, and he became a stepfather to her five children. The couple remained on the family farm until moving to the Prairie Living Center in Colby. Joe was involved in farming and ranching for most of his life. He worked hard and loved to work. He was involved with the Soil Conservation Service, NFO and Catholic Rural Life. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Favorite pastimes included calling Bingo, square dancing and polka dancing. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mindrup, of Colby; four children and their spouses, Joseph and Meg Mindrup, of Hays, John Mindrup, of Hays, Elizabeth and Phil Jansonius, of Prairie View, and Margaret and Brett Houtz, of Ozawkie; four stepchildren and their spouses, Carl and Roxanne Olberding, of Siren, WI, Daniel Olberding, of Washington, DC, Rose Marie and Charles Fortina, of Omaha, NE, and Lylea and John Meyer, of Siren, WI; a step daughter-in-law, Ginny Olberding, of Litchfield, MN; two sisters, Ann and Roger Schmidt, of St. Paul, MN, and Jeanette Weishaar, of Salina; seven grandchildren and nine step grandchildren; in addition to other family members and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; infant daughter, Maurine; stepson, Paul Olberding; and five siblings, Larry Mindrup, James Mindrup, Dorothy Otter, Mary Ellen Mindrup and Geneva Long. Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, November 14, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo.
