Read More	Athens Messenger January 19, 1914 Veteran is Called Home Patrick Mourne, Faithful to His Country and His Church, Passes Patrick Mourne, aged 85, died Sunday afternoon at his home on West State Street from the infirmities incident to old age. The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the First M. E. Church and burial will be made in the West Union Street cemetery. The G A R will attend the funeral to honor their comrade. Mr. Mourne was the son of John Mourne, a native of Ireland who came to Athens County from Maryland and settled in the then wilderness in 1818. He had ten children. Three of his sons, Patrick, Robert and Thomas served in the 63rd Ohio Regiment, Robert and Thomas dying in the service from measles. Patrick Mourne, enlisted in Company A 63rd on July 16, 1861 and served until August 1865. He served with merit and distinction taking part in many hard fought battles and was with Sherman on his march to the sea. He was married on August 30, 1868 to Mrs. Mary B. Clemens and four children were born to them. Mrs. Allie H. Carter of Minerals. Minnie A. Bean who died about fifteen years ago. John F. Mourne of Mason City Iowa, and Maude I. Woodworth of this city. His son John will not be able to attend the funeral because of sickness in his own family. Mr. Mourne was born near Salem and lived the life of a farmer until almost fifteen years ago when he came to Athens. His whole life with the exception of his army life was spent in Athens county. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for the past thirty-six years, always taking a prominent part in church work with the utmost zeal and fervor. As he fought for his country in the days of the civi war, he worked in the church, faithful to the end.
