He was born March 17, 1922, in Carroll County to John and Antoinette Pille Stangl. He married Lucille Gaul August 28, 1946 in Earling, Iowa. She preceded him in death January 26, 1978. He married Mary Theresa Jones September 16, 1978. A graduate of Coon Rapids High School, he served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater, receiving a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He owned and operated taverns in Manning and Knoxville. A resident of Ottumwa since 1964, he owned and operated the Horseshoe Club in Ottumwa. He was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #75 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving is his wife, four sons, Neil of Marion, Steve of Eufaula, OK., Michael of Pasadena, CA., and Bob of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Debra Margrave of Sedona, Arizona, and Casey Stangl of Minneapolis, MN.; two sisters, Marykay Mendez of Holly, Mich. and Alice Claire Broude of Los Angeles, CA. and a brother Barney Stangl of Knoxville. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
