He was born June 21, 1920, in Anselmo, Neb., the son of James Bryan Fiske and Celestia Ellen Dutton. Raised on the family farm, he attended Windy Point, a one-room school, and graduated from Anselmo High School in 1937. He worked as a farm laborer and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, and participated in the Second World War as a P-38 and B-17 mechanic in Panama. He received an associates degree with aircraft airframe and power licenses from Chaffey Community College and attended Antelope Valley Community College. Paul married Margaret Louise Hannah on July 10, 1946, in Pasadena, Calif. The couple was blessed with four children: Michael Bryan (Maureen Mugavin), Susan Margaret (John Koehler, deceased), Janis Lynn (Ed Genest), and Mary Ellen (Anthony Repucci). A second son, Berthold (Anette) Kaib, joined the Fiske family as an exchange student from Germany. Paul's career as an aircraft mechanic par excellence is a litany of the post-war era. He began with Pacific Aeromotive Corporation in Ontario; transferred to Plant 42, Palmdale, Calif., in 1954, with Northrop; transitioned through uncertain economic times with Douglas and Convair; and joined Lockheed in 1963, as an engine mechanic on the SR-71. He worked at the Skunk Works and Edwards Air Force Base, completing his career in 1986, at Mildenhall Air Force Base, England. Paul's life was dedicated to community service. For many years, he served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lancaster, Calif., where he was also Bishop's Warden. As Scoutmaster, he resurrected Boy Scout Troop 67 at St. Paul's. Among other activities, he enjoyed camping with the troop at Camp Whitsett. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, received the Silver Beaver award, and was honored with the St. George Episcopal Church award for distinguished service toward the spiritual, physical, mental, and moral development of youth. Paul enjoyed outdoor activities. He was an avid hiker in the Grand and Copper Canyons. He enjoyed woodworking, where he was an expert artisan, designing whirlygig birds, airplanes, and covered wagons with teams. He was a devoted grandfather to Emily Agin (Mitchell Blakely), Matthew and Margaret Koehler, and Carmen and Dominic Repucci. They will miss him greatly. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, brother Robert Leroy, children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harold Fay, Kenneth Claude, and James Charles; and sisters: Opal May Schultz and Evajean Volquardsen. A private memorial service was held on April 15, 2009, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Encinitas. A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lancaster, Calif. Paul will be buried in the Victoria Creek (New Helena) Cemetery in Anselmo, Neb., in June 2009.
