Description	:	Paul D. Corley, age 99 a resident of Belington departed this life on Saturday January 26, 2019 at Talbott’s Personal Care Facility where he had resided since May 2018. He was born June 16, 1919 at Weaver (Randolph County) West Virginia, the son of the late Bryan “Bink” Corley and the late Cordi Lantz Corley. He was the sole surviving member of his immediate family. Corley, age 99 a resident of Belington departed this life on Saturday January 26, 2019 at Talbott’s Personal Care Facility where he had resided since May 2018. He was born June 16, 1919 at Weaver (Randolph County) West Virginia, the son of the late Bryan “Bink” Corley and the late Cordi Lantz Corley. He was the sole surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene Holbert Corley; two sisters, Margaret Corley Fitzwater Ware and Eloise Corley George; and a brother Robert Marshall Corley. Mr. Corley attended schools of Barbour County, which included early years at Galloway and Junior. He graduated from Belington High School with the class of 1938 and was active in football, basketball, and baseball where he was coached and mentored by Principal Isaac Pitsenberger. He served with the 3rd Infantry Division throughout World War II having been in the first beach landing on North Africa in November 1942. He participated in four subsequent beachhead invasions and campaigns at Sicily, Anzio, Salerno and southern France. He was awarded the Bronze Star in Anzio, Italy. Mr. Corley returned home from the war in June 1945. Two years later he married school teacher Irene Holbert, who convinced him to enroll in Davis and Elkins College and pursue a degree in education. Mr. Corley graduated from D&E in 1949 and later received a Master’s degree from WVU in secondary education. He taught school for six years, was a principal for eleven years, and was a county superintendent of schools in Barbour and Morgan Counties until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of several county, state and national schools organizations. He served as president of the West Virginia Association of School Administrators for the school year 1975-76. He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church of Belington; the Belington Masonic Lodge # 125 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Wheeling; the Belington American Legion Post #96, the Belington VFW Post #410. He was a former member of the West Virginia University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, and a former member of the Belington Kiwanis club. He is survived by a son James Paul (J.P.) Corley of Martinsburg, WV, wife Sarah, and children Jonathan and Zachary; son Gregg Corley of Keyser, WV, wife Janet, and children Gina and Michael; daughter Shari Corley Kercheval of Harpers Ferry, WV and husband Nick, and a number of loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. at the Talbott Funeral Home, Belington and again on Thursday from 8am to 11am the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating. Interment will be in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington, where the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF&AM will conduct ritualistic graveside services and full military rites will be accorded by the Belington American Legion Post # 96 along with the United States Army. Following Interment a reception for guests will be held at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home of Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Paul D.
