He was born March 17, 1929, in Langley to Paul and Clara Helen (Mitchell) Williams. He grew up in Langley and graduated from Marquette High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He married Ruby Jean Schoen on Oct. 4, 1953, in WaKeeney. He worked for various oil and petroleum companies, retiring in 1983. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Laurel "Bud", Thomas "Tom", and Scotty, all of Russell; two daughters, Debra Lee Williams, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Denise Williams, Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Elton James, Hot Springs, Calif., two sisters, Betty Grafing, Keystone, S.D., and Shirley Conners, Medicine Lodge; and a grandson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Pohlman-Heise Memorial Chapel, Russell; burial in Langley Cemetery near Marquette. ***************************** Russell County News - Jan. 14, 2004 (additional info only) In 1948, he entered the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge in 1953. On Oct. 4, 1953, he married Ruby Jean Schoen in WaKeeney. After their marriage, they moved to Colorado in 1953, where he worked in the oil field. In the spring of 1954, he lost an arm in an oil field accident, but remarkably, returned to work two weeks later in the capacity of a pumper for the Trans Era Petroleum Co. They moved to Phillipsburg, where he continued to work for the company as a pumper, before moving to the Russell area in 1961. He worked for various oil and petroleum companies in the Russell area as a pumper, field superintendent, and heavy equipment operator, until a heart attack forced his early retirement in 1983. For the past several years, he worked at the Oil Patch Museum, Russell. He attended the First Baptist Church, Russell, and was a lifetime member of the Russell VFW and former member of the Amer. Legion, Russell.
