Blessing, 76, of 420 30th St. SE, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 1995, in Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, where he had been a resident for the last 6 1/2 years. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Brosh Chapel, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park, with military rites. The Rev. Nick Longworth will officiate. Paul was born April 19, 1919, in Lisbon, the son of Howard and Doris Kohl Blessing. He married Margaret P. Trachta on May 21, 1944, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He was employed by Link-Belt Speeder FMC for 37 years, retiring in 1983. An Army veteran of World War II, Paul saw action in the African campaign and in Italy, where he received stars from three major battles. He spent time in hospitals in Africa and Italy recovering from illness and shrapnel wounds. He was a member of American Legion Hanford Post 5 and Machinist Local of the United Auto Workers. Paul enjoyed square dancing, gardening, hunting, fishing, and probably most of all, helping his friends and neighbors in any way that he could. "Dad, your suffering has finally ended. You may be gone, but you most certainly will never be forgotten. We all love you -- rest in peace." A memorial fund has been established.
