Read More	World War II Veteran. Lot Owner T. J. Bender. Paul Elwood Bender was born to Lillian Dee and Elwood Bender on June 23, 1905, in Lincoln and departed this life July 17, 1980 in Geneva. He grew to manhood in Fairmont, attending grade school there and graduating from Fairmont high school in 1924. His interests were wide and varied. He taught school. He worked for the railroad. He was always very mechanically inclined. On July 9, 1936, he married Alyce Lorraine Fickett in York. For some time they lived in Lincoln, then moved to Fairmont in 1938, where they have since made their home. To this union were born three children, Tarilyn Kay, Steven Elwood, and LeAnne Dee. During World War II he was stationed at Carlsbad, N.M., and later at Fairmont Air Base. After the war he worked with combine crews during the summer, following the harvest from the deep south to the Canadian border. He also ran a large blacksmith shop in the west part of town. Later he was secretary to the School Bus Association of Nebraska and a paid lobbyist for the same at the Nebraska Legislature. Paul was a good and kind husband and father. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alyce; daughters, Mrs. Tarilyn Elznic of Exeter, and Mrs. Wesley (LeAnne) McMullen of Brush, Col.; son Steve of LaMesa, Cal.; five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Gay (Elsie) Fisher of Firth; nieces; nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death. Graveside services were held July 21, 1980, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Jay Vetter officiating. Interment was in the Fairmont public cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 31 July 1980.
