Description	:	Paul H. Rayer was born in Geneva July 26, 1937 to Paul F. and Dorothy M. Rayer. The family soon moved to Manitou Springs, Colo., where Paul grew up and attended school. In high school, he played for the Manitou Springs football team as a half back and full back. After high school, Paul joined the U. S. He became a professional house painter during his early years... Read More	Paul H. Rayer was born in Geneva July 26, 1937 to Paul F. and Dorothy M. Rayer. The family soon moved to Manitou Springs, Colo., where Paul grew up and attended school. In high school, he played for the Manitou Springs football team as a half back and full back. After high school, Paul joined the U. S. Army and served his country for six years, obtaining an honorable discharge. Paul married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Johansen, and had two daughters, Paula and Beth. He became a professional house painter during his early years and soon took over the family business, Rayer Painting and Decorating. He later owned and operated Rayer Paint Supply and Framing while living in Canon City, Colo. While in Canon City, he served as the paint and color consultant for the movie production of the 1978 film, "Comes A Horseman" filmed in Fremont County with Jane Fonda, James Caan and Jason Robards. He then moved back to Colorado Springs, Colo., to continue painting professionally as Rayer Painting and Decorating. After retiring from his painting career, he moved back to Geneva, where he was born. During his life, Paul enjoyed serving as an El Paso County Deputy Sheriff in the Ute Pass area, ice racing his purple 1948 Willie's Jeep at Rainbow Falls Lake, painting pictures of the ocean and teaching his daughters to enjoy the outdoors and to be good sportsmen. He loved to travel and looked forward to hauling his daughters to compete in National Little Britches Rodeo events. Every Friday night you could hear him singing "On the Road Again" as everyone loaded the horses, dogs and pet goat and hit the road for another weekend of rodeoing. He also enjoyed fishing, golf, rafting, water and snow skiing, swimming, writing country songs, and he even tried out skydiving. He had a way with animals and was always saving some poor injured or lost creature. His family was convinced that God put him here on earth to take care of animals. He survived a rattlesnake bite along the Arkansas River, and his daughters always joked that because he was so ornery, the poor snake probably did not survive the bite. He is survived by his daughters, Paula Heule and husband Greg; Beth Davis and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Kareena Kalter and Corbin Kalter; brother, Dick Rayer; sisters, Mary Cropp, Cindy Murrell and Sally Vossler; numerous nieces and nephews and by his beloved dogs, Pete, Lady and Henry. Rayer passed away in his home with his dogs by his side in Geneva the afternoon of April 20, 2008 from leukemia. His family is assured that he was sent ahead to Heaven to take care of all of God's animals and check the place out. He was cremated and will be buried in Exeter near his mother, father and numerous other family and friends Memorial Day weekend. He will be laid to rest with two of his deceased pets, Tippy and Oseta. The Nebraska Signal April 30th, 2008 page 20.
