Funeral services were Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Casketbearers were Ed Korbel, Gerald Jacobson, Dennis Mundahl, John Evans, Robert Aljoe and Tom Aljoe. Paul J. Korbel was born to John and Lena C. (Schneider) Korbel on September 14, 1922 on a farm north of Kranzburg, South Dakota. At the death of Paul's father in 1930 the family moved into Kranzburg then in 1937 they moved to Watertown. Paul graduated from Watertown High School in 1940 and then he attended Notre Dame College at Mitchell, South Dakota where he received his teaching certificate. He taught at the Hanten School District #12 for two years. He was employed by the Watertown Cooperative Elevator for twenty years. Twelve of those years as bookkeeper and eight years as manager. Then Paul was employed as a bookkeeper for the next twenty three years by the Farmers and Merchants Bank and Trust until his retirement in 1987. On July 21, 1956 he was united in marriage to Frances Grygiel at the Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown. Paul and Fran celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 2006 and after 53 years of marriage Frances passed away on July 18, 2010. Paul was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working in his yard and traveling to all 50 states and many foreign countries. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his infant brother, Leonard; and a sister, Caroline Aljoe. Paul is survived by his sisters, Julia and Katherine Jacobson both of Watertown and Theresa (Roland) Mundahl of San Antonio, TX; his brother, Sy (Mary) Korbel of Watertown; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori provided links to parents. 9-9-16
