Curtin, the seventh and youngest child of Raymond and Maxine (Holcomb) Curtin, was born January 22, 1963, in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1981. During his last year at O’Gorman, Paul showed his principal a woodworking project that he created for his mother. The principal was very impressed with Paul’s handiwork and a few weeks later called Paul and told him about a person who was looking for someone who was handy and had artistic ability. Paul ended up applying for a goldsmith position and was hired. Paul went from doing jewelry repair to managing a jewelry store for seven years. After saving money and selling his motorcycle, he opened Raymond’s Jewellers in 1991. He named the store after his beloved dad. He was passionate about his work and was a talented jeweler and goldsmith. After 23 years downtown, in June 2014, Raymond’s Jewellers moved to the present location on 41st Street. Paul was united in marriage to Juanita Tschetter on May 14, 2014. Paul loved life and always had a smile on his face. His wife, friends and family meant the world to him and he would drop everything to help out anyone or for a chance to get together. Paul and Juanita enjoyed traveling, including trips to the motorcycle rally in Sturgis, relaxing beach vacations and annual jewelry shows. They also enjoyed hosting poolside parties at their home for their many friends and family. Time spent with his children and grandchildren this past Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as on his birthday this January, were especially meaningful to Paul. Paul was very active in the community and played an instrumental role in the rebirth of Downtown Sioux Falls. He was also an active member of the Sioux Falls Catholic Community. In addition, Paul and Raymond’s Jewellers sponsored several area baseball teams and helped many charities and benefits throughout the years. Paul served four terms on the Board of Directors and was a past president of Downtown Sioux Falls (DTSF), a member of Holy Spirit Parish, and a member of Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO). His parents, Raymond and Maxine, and brothers, Brian, Bruce and Rex, preceded him in death. Lovingly called Pooh Bear by friends and family or as Papa Pooh by his grandchildren, we are thankful for the lifetime of memories, laughter, and smiles Paul gave to all of us. He enriched our lives and will forever be in our hearts. Pooh Bear was truly an invaluable gem.
