Paul was born on November 3, 1925 in Liberty Center, Iowa to parents Basil and Harriett Irene (Hervey) Buckalew. He faithfully served in the US Navy during World War II. In 1948 he was united in marriage to Jenoise Rose Horney. They moved to Grimes 1954, where Paul worked as a farmer and retired in 1985. He sold seed corn for Pioneer and DeKalb and following retirement he drove a school bus for DC-G community schools. Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grimes, Grimes Lions Club and a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 577. He loved jigsaw puzzles, sharing Navy veteran stories and was a supporter of the Mustang Wrestling Team. Paul is survived by his wife, Jenoise; sons, Mike (Cheryl) of Dallas Center, Steve (Cindy) of Granger and Brad (Michelle) of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kendall, Jessica, Katelyn, Basil and Jenna; three great grandchildren, Kaylee, Mikayla and Kinnick; two brothers, Clyde and Larry and four sisters, Carolyn, Alice Jane, Betty, Zella; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LaVern and John and one sister, Edna. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Grimes Lions Club or First Presbyterian Church, Grimes.
