Description	:	Paul Joseph Gettings, 79, of 505 S. Pocahontas, died at 10:20 pm Oct. 26, 2011, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born May 24, 1932, in Hedrick to Lewis and Cora Blomme Gettings. He married Marcella "Sally" Goebel on Feb. 12, 1956, in Vista, Calif., and together they had seven children. He married Marcella "Sally" Goebel on Feb. 12, 1956, in Vista, Calif., and together they had seven children. Sally preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2001. He married Judith Kay Wagner on March 23, 2005. A graduate of Hedrick High School in 1950, he attended the University of Iowa. Paul served in the U.S.Marine Corps from 1954-56 with the 363rd A Company 3rd Battalion during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Dial Finance starting in Omaha and moved to Ottumwa in 1960 as a branch manager, and he started Money Management and Ottumwa Loan. He and Sally owned the Children's Corner, and they bought and renovated multiple residential and commercial properties in Ottumwa. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #888, a longtime member of Harley Owners Group(HOG), and a member of the Poppin's Johnnies. He served on the city of Ottumwa Parks Board and was one of the founders of Ottumwa Progress, Inc. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council. Surviving are his wife, Judy; his children, Jerry Gettings of Lenexa, Kan., Tom Gettings of Carlisle, John(Barbara)Gettings of Wichita, Kan., Mona(Curtis)Kline of Ankeny, Mark(Julie)Gettings of Overland Park, Kan., Trent(Lori)Gettings of Kernersville, N.C., Josh Gettings of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Morgan, Andrew, Allison, Leah, Tara, Jesica, Sam, Hallie and Emily; and a sister, Mary Pauline Hook of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church; with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B.Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will begin at 10 am Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with family visitation from 1-3 pm Sunday. A Christian Wake will be held at 3 pm Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Wapello County Trails or Heartland Humane Society, Ottumwa, Iowa.
