As a third-grader he moved with his family to Valley Springs, SD. He was united in marriage with Jennie M. Franken on February 10, 1938 on the farm at Valley Springs. After their marriage the couple farmed north of Valley Springs and then at Beaver Creek, MN for two years. They returned to the Valley Springs area in 1948 where they farmed for nearly 40 years. They retired and moved into town in 1987. Jennie preceded Paul in death on February 11, 2001. Paul was a lifelong member of Valley Springs Reformed Church. Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Margie Baker and her husband, Wayne, Chandler, MN, Janice Vink and her husband, Jim, Luverne, MN, Shirley Kienast and her husband, Wally, Rapid City, SD, Dennis Miersma and his wife, Judy, Valley Springs, SD; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tunis, Harry; and a sister, Henrietta Rubingh. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Valley Springs American Legion Post 131 following the committal service.
