Loving memory of this hard working man will be cherished by his wife of nearly seventy years, Adabelle (Bancroft) Foglesong; their three children: Ronald (Phyllis) Foglesong of Mission Viejo, CA, Dennis (Jean) Foglesong of Thayer, IA and Janet Glassell (Brian Schon) of Pleasant Hill, IA; grandchildren: Phil Foglesong, Sean Victorini, Jennifer Rankin, Tim (Jennifer) Foglesong, Ken (Julie) Foglesong, Eric Glassell (Brittany Stechalin) and Amy (Jeremy) Snell; five great-grandchildren; one sister Gladys Northup of Mason City, IA and all who knew Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Charlene; brothers: Art, Cecil, Harold, Darwin, and sisters: Leata Grandbouche, Pearl Callow, and Florence Foglesong. Paul was born on August 7, 1915 in Butterfield, MN, the son of Charles and Grace (Mendenhall) Foglesong. The growing family moved frequently during Paul's childhood. He attended schools in Stuart, Earlham and Valley Junction where he also helped his father work in various coal mines in the area. In the early 1930's the family moved to to Guthrie Center where Paul finished his schooling and continued to mine coal and work on other construction and farming jobs. Paul met Adabelle Bancroft in 1939 and they married on June 28, 1941. Paul was summoned to duty in World War II serving with the Army Air Corp in the Pacific for three years. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal for injuries he sustained from a Japanese bomb strike. During his military service he wrote letters home to his new wife every day. Adabelle keeps a file with each of his wartime letters home. Returning to Guthrie Center in 1945, Paul worked for various employers finally gaining aposition with Guthrie County maintaining roads with a road grader. Paul and the area residents he served, had many stories about his efforts to clear snow covered roads in medical emergencies. Paul and Adabelle purchase a home and acreage South of Guthrie Center in 1948 and raised their kids with a mixture of city and country life. Paul continued working until 1984, when he "retired" from the County, but soon went to work performing repair and maintenance jobs for the "widows who need some help". The couple moved to Guthrie Center in 1990 residing on North 9th Street. Paul's great health and interest in doing things for others stayed with him until his mid-nineties. His heath began to be a concern and required him to move to the New Homestead in September of 2008. A few months later, Adabelle joined him, living in the Assisted Living area. For nearly two years they were able to be together daily for meals, activities, and enjoying each others' love until his calling by the Lord. He will be missed by his family and all those whose days were made a brighter by his simple values, humor, and friendship.
