He came to America as a teenager and became a citizen of the U.S.A. in 1929. He married Edith Mae Brunt February 2, 1924 in Douglas Wyoming. She passed away in 1986. He worked as a section hand and relief foreman for the Union Pacific railroad for 49 years. He enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his yard and garden. He had been a resident of the Lewellen Care Home for the past 18 months before his death there December 24, 1988 at the age of 91 years and 9 days. Graveside services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 1988 in Ash Hollow Cemetery with Rev. Glen Emert, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Lewellen, officiating. Holechek Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Jack Leach, Byron Koeppen, Kenny Miller, Marvin Grace, Merlyn Grace and Bruce Roberts. Memorials will be shared with the Lewellen Lions Club and the Lewellen Care Home Auxiliary. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: June and Dick Roberts of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and JoAnn Podkonyak of Lewellen; five grandchildren, Rick Roberts, Tampa, Florida, Debbi Guy, Ft. Riley, Kansas, Susan Barnett, Arlington, Texas, Holli Fessler, Lincoln, and Jill Podkonyak of Lewellen; three great-grandsons, Michael and Danny Paul Guy, and Ryan Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; and two brothers, Louis and Nickolus.
