Last rites were held in the Onecho church Tuesday afternoon for Paul Rolland Maurer, 67, who died Sunday morning in St. Ignatius hospital after an illness of two years. The Rev. Paul R. Aeschliman of the Onecho church officiated, and burial was in Onecho Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rupert Aechliman, Cecil Johnson, Leslie Rubin, F. P. Copley, C. A. Stevick and Arthur Ensley. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Aeschliman, Simon Dreifus, Henry Hickman, Ed Reinhard, J. L. Strevey, Charles Johnson, Sam Aeschliman, Ernest Aeschliman, George Cornelius and H. A. Weaver. Paul Roland Maurer was born in the French part of Switzerland December 9, 1862. In 1883 he came to America. after spending a few years in Davis county, Iowa, where he also united with the Mennonite church, he moved to Washington territory in November, 1886. Here he married Miss Mattie Thompkins, December 25, 1892. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Eldon C. Maurer and Dewey J. Maurer, Colfax; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne Major, Penawawa; a sister, Mrs. Alice Maurer Varney, Switzerland; a half-sister, Mrs. Bertha Allenbach, Almota, and another half-sister in Switzerland, and two half-brothers in Switzerland. With the exception of three years spent in Pullman, Mr. Maurer lived in the Onecho neighborhood continuously after his arrival in Washington. He was a successful farmer and had many friends.
