Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at United Church of Christ-Congregational in Ames, with the Rev. Stephen McDuff officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Paul Rutgar Jones was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Ames, the son of John Rutgar and Anna M. (Orr) Jones. A lifetime Ames resident, he was a graduate of Ames High School and attended Iowa State University. He was an all-state football player and member of the Ames High School Hall of Fame. He married Helen Latch on Aug. 11, 1940, in Ames. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the owner of Paul R. Jones Sheet Metal, one of the first businesses to locate on South Duff Avenue. Paul R. Jones Sheet Metal was responsible for the copper roof on the Ames Bandshell. He retired in 1988. Jones was a member of United Church of Christ-Congregational, American Legion Post No. 37 and Elks Lodge 1626. He donated funds for the Paul R. Jones Weightlifting Room at Ames High School and the Helen Latch Jones Rose Garden at Reiman Gardens. He is survived by one son, Jerry P. (Sally) Jones of Ames; two daughters, Anna M. (James) Logan of Norwalk and Linda S. (Dennis) Kesler of Ames; six grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Horras of Ames, Jessica (Stephen) Jones-Fischer of Washington, D.C., Ashley Jones of Ames, Heather (James) Workman of Kansas City, Mo., Lisa (Darrin) Vittetoe of Coralville and Katie Kesler of Ames; and two great-granddaughters, Jazlyn and Brinley Horras. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1992; three brothers, Newell, John Ellsworth and Clyde; and one sister, Louise Yenerich. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home.
