Paulina Marx, an old resident of this community, passed away Friday morning at her home in this city, following a gradual decline in her health condition for three months, due to cancer of the stomach. Funeral services were held, Sunday at two o'clock p.m., at the Congregational church. Rev. Duhrkop of Hooper, officiating. Interment was made in Pebble cemetery. Paulina Marx, an old resident of this community, passed away Friday morning at her home in this city, following a gradual decline in her health condition for three months, due to cancer of the stomach. The deceased was born in West Prussia, Germany, on July 4, 1850, and died in Scribner, Neb., on January 22, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 18 days. On March 29, 1870, she was married to Ferdinand Marx, to which union was born twelve children. She was preceded in death by the husband who passed away in 1902, and by three children who died in infancy. Those left to mourn her loss are four sons, Emil Marx and Henry Marx, both of Dalton, and Fred Marx and Otto Marx of this community; five daughters, Mrs. Martin Schnoor of Cambridge, Md., Mrs. Henry Wegner of Ewing, Neb., Mrs. Henry Blome of Dalton, Neb., Mrs. George H. H. Meyer of Scribner, and Miss Hilda Marx at home., and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Sellmann of Hooper, and thirty-nine grandchildren. In 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Marx and children left their native land for this country, locating at Hooper where they stayed only a few months. The following spring they purchased a farm three miles north of Scribner, which is now occupied by a son, Otto Marx. Following the death of Mr. Marx, the wife and children conducted the farm until last spring when Mrs. Marx purchased property in Scribner and with her daughter, Miss Hilda, took up residence here to spend, her remaining, days in quiet retirement'.
