King, 73, of Snohomish and a former resident of Leavenworth and Wenatchee, died Monday evening, August 20, 2004, in Providence General Medical Center, Colby Campus in Everett. She was born Polly E. Bethea on November 30, 1929, to William Jennings Bryan and Anna (Stovall) Bethea at Locust Bayou, Arkansas, where she grew up and received her education. In 1947, she moved to Wenatchee and later to Leavenworth where she operated the Highway Cafe. On August 25, 1955, she married Carrol L. King in Wenatchee and they made their home in Leavenworth where together, they owned and operated the Union 76 Service Station. In 1961, they moved to Snohomish to make their home. She was very active in the Democratic Party, helping with the campaigns for Senator Warren Magnuson and Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson. She served as vice chairperson for the Snohomish County Democratic Central Committee and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1968, and 1972. Polly had a true sense and dedication for love of her country. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, one who truly loved her family. In the neighborhood, she became a 'mother' for many children. She enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling. She is survived by a daughter, Diana King of Reno, Nevada; two sons, Bryan David King and Jeffrey Edward King both of Snohomish; one brother and sister in-law, Bill and Eloise Bethea of Camden, Arkansas; brother in-law, LeRoy King of Seattle; sisters in-law, Lajuana 'Sis' McClure and Georginia King of Hurricane, Utah; several nieces and nephews, including Jim Beasley of Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol in 1997. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Polly E. King will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning, September 2, 2004, in the Ward's Funeral Chapel. Concluding service and Interment will follow in the Leavenworth Cemetery. Those who wish, may make a memorial in her name to the Children's Hospital of Seattle, P.O. Box C-5371, Seattle, WA 98105. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of arrangements.
