The daughter of Forest Farell and Iola Fern Leatherman Groves, she was born April 4, 1925, in Union Township, Mahaska County, Iowa. She was raised in the Mahaska County area and attended school there. Pauline was married to Ervin Long in Lancaster, Missouri. The couple farmed in Mahaska County near Oskaloosa for several years and later moved to Oskaloosa, where she was employed with Brown's Shoe Fit. After the death of her husband in 1977, she moved to Grinnell and continued to work for Brown's Shoe Fit, in the Grinnell location, until her retirement in 1980. Pauline enjoyed family activities and socializing with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo, attending the Farmer's Market, nature, and collecting angels. Survivors include three grandchildren, Mike (Patty) Funk of Cedar Rapids, Kim (Terry) Van Rheenen of Johnston, and Scott Robertson of Maine; four great-grandchildren, Justin Van Rheenen of Ankeny, Stacy Van Rheenen of Des Moines, and Morgan and Kayla Funk of Cedar Rapids; one great-great-granddaughter, Emmy Van Rheenen of Des Moines; and a special friend, Frank Spooner of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Sandra Funk; and one brother, Max Groves. Obituary taken from the Smith Funeral Home Web Site.
