Description	:	Mrs. Pauline Kirby McDowell, age 88, widow of the late Vander Marvin McDowell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at her residence, with her family by her bedside. Born in the Blenheim Township of Marlboro County, SC, on July 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Addison Kirby and Emily Freeman Kirby. She served faithfully as a member of the Bennettsville Emmanuel Holiness Church for 40 years, taught the Primary Sunday School Class for 35 years and was a member of the Emmanuel Holiness Women's Auxillary. Born in the Blenheim Township of Marlboro County, SC, on July 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Addison Kirby and Emily Freeman Kirby. She served faithfully as a member of the Bennettsville Emmanuel Holiness Church for 40 years, taught the Primary Sunday School Class for 35 years and was a member of the Emmanuel Holiness Women's Auxillary. She formerly worked in textiles for H.K. Porter and Oak River Mills and was a homemaker. She enjoyed going to church, cooking for her family and sewing. Surviving are her sons, Gene (Venus) McDowell of Bennettsville, Ray (Patricia) McDowell of Bennettsville, David (Gloria) McDowell of Cheraw and William McDowell of Bennettsville; a brother, Theodore (Avon) Kirby of Bennettsville; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Bennettsville Emmanuel Holiness Church with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. McDowell was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; brothers, Alton Freeman, Willard Freeman and Charles Kirby; sisters, Daisy Caulder, Ellen Radford, Dorothy Gedding and Callie Mae Kirby. Memorials are suggested to Embrace Hospice, 1831 West Evans Street Suite 400, Florence, SC 29501. The family would like to extend a very heart felt thank you to Dr. Farah Maqsood for his professional care given to Mrs. McDowell during her illness.
