Description	:	Pauline "Polly" Carter Walden Coleman, December 24, 2009. She was born in Chase City on October 2, 1916, the eleventh child of Jasper Douglas and Brijetta Peek Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, eleven silblings, and her husbands, Joseph J. Walden and Dr. John Coleman. She is survived by her son, John Douglas Coleman and wife, Cecelia Tucker Coleman of Lunenburg County, three daughters, Mary Ann Walden Lacy and husband, Matthew Lyle Lacy, III of Danville, Frances Coleman Doyle and husband, Stephen Reese Doyble of Roanoke, and Elizabeth Coleman Tobin and husband, Bradford Fenton... She is survived by her son, John Douglas Coleman and wife, Cecelia Tucker Coleman of Lunenburg County, three daughters, Mary Ann Walden Lacy and husband, Matthew Lyle Lacy, III of Danville, Frances Coleman Doyle and husband, Stephen Reese Doyble of Roanoke, and Elizabeth Coleman Tobin and husband, Bradford Fenton Tobin of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; six grandchildren, Matthew Lyle Lacy, IV, Laura Elizabeth Lacy, John Norborne Doyble, Thomas Carter Doyle, Bradford Barrett Tobin and Caroline Carter Tobin. Additionally, she is surved by seven great-grandchildren. She attended Farmville State Teachers' College and was a graduate of Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond. She taught at Chase City High School and later worked as a secretary during the construction of the John Kerr Dam. She was a member of the South Hill United Methodist Church, an active member of the community, was a volunteer for the hospital auxillary, and was a member of the DAR, the Southside Virginia Community Chorus and the South Hill Music Club. A graveside funeral service was held Sunday, December 27 at Oakwood Cemetery in South Hill. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
