Mrs. Shepherd was a high school math teacher, retiring from Chaparral High School in Harper. She was former Outstanding Teacher of the Year in Kansas. She was a member of Harper First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary for Women in Education. Mrs. Shepherd was a high school math teacher, retiring from Chaparral High School in Harper. She was former Outstanding Teacher of the Year in Kansas. She was a member of Harper First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary for Women in Education. She was an American Red Cross volunteer for 65 years and was a member of the Red Cross Volunteer Hall of Fame. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Elliott Funeral Home in Harper, Kansas, with burial in Harper Cemetery. Local arrangements were made by Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Harper First United Methodist Church or the Chester and Pauline Shepherd Memorial Scholarship Fund at Chaparral High School in Harper. Mrs. Shepherd was born in Wichita, Kan., Aug. 23, 1907, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Schwae Mallonee. She married C.J. Shepherd July 14, 1934, in Wichita. He died Nov. 4, 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Hostetler of Columbus; grandsons, Mark Hostetler of Dahlonega, Ga., and Craig Hostetler of Kensington, Md.; and a great-grandson.
