SMITH, 86, of Sioux City, Iowa and former long-time Washta and Correctionville, Iowa area resident passed away Friday evening, June 13, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Sioux City. Burial will be at Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Iowa. Pauline was born July 29, 1927 in Cherokee, Iowa to Wilfred and Ina (Hunter) Godfrey. She graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1946 and was married to Donald L. Smith on October 12, 1947 at Washta, Iowa. Pauline worked at the Livestock National Bank at Sioux City Stockyards and also as a teller at the Pierson Bank. Pauline and her husband Don began farming in 1950. She was a partner with her husband Don for Smith Pig Hatchery and Smith Feed Yards, retiring in 1989. She had lived in Sioux City the past 2 ½ years, prior to this lived in rural Washta and Correctionville area. Pauline was a former 4-H leader. Pauline and Don were honored by First Bank of Omaha, Nebraska as a long-time customer for Smith Feed Yards. Visitors from foreign countries toured Smith Feed Yards to learn about different ways of cattle feeding and farming. Pauline enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting and making jewelry. Pauline and Don enjoyed traveling. While farming, they went on family vacations to various Midwestern and Western states. After retirement they traveled to England to visit Pauline's father's birthplace and also traveled to Australia, Alaska and South America. Pauline really enjoyed raising her four children and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald on October 12, 2013, two sons Duane Smith on July 1, 1996 and James Smith on December 1, 2012. She is survived by two daughters; Loretta Powell and her husband Jack of Phoenix, Arizona; Lois Ramaekers and her husband Bruce of Sioux City, Iowa; two daughters-in-law; Marlene Smith Ebert and her husband Jim of Marcus, Iowa and Jolene Smith of Correctionville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; a brother Ralph Godfrey of Cherokee, Iowa, a sister Maxine Irwin and her husband Kenneth of Washta, Iowa.
