The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Genoa with Rev. Vernon Olson officiating. Interment will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery, Rosenborg. Pearl was born on July 3, 1913, in the farmhouse of her parents, Henning and Hannah Bergstrom. She grew up on the family farm between Lindsay and Genoa just over the hill from the old "West Chicago Store". Pearl attended Platte County District 26 and graduated from 8th grade in 1927. Also in 1927, she was confirmed at West Hill Methodist Church which later merged with United Methodist Church in Genoa. Pearl graduated from Genoa High School in 1931. Following graduation she attended Wayne State College, University of Nebraska and completed correspondence courses from Midland College in Fremont to acquire a Normal Training Certificate enabling her to teach grade school. She taught 11 years in rural schools throughout Platte and Nance counties. On June 6, 1942, Pearl was united in marriage to Carl Peter Buhl of rural Lindsay. They lived and farmed 5 miles southwest of Lindsay. After Carl's death in 1958, Pearl and her young son, Lynn "John", continued to operate the family farm. In 1961, Pearl was married to Pete Christensen of rural Lindsay. Pete passed away in 1970 and Pearl remained on the farm until 1983 when she retired and moved to Genoa. Pearl loved to travel and from 1975 to 2004 she visited and toured most states in the USA and nearly every country overseas. Pearl was a devout member of the United Methodist Church and at home her bible was always close. She was a member of the UMC Ladies Aide and "Pairs and Spares". She was very active at the Pawnee Senior Center in Genoa and was the last living member of the original "Golden Oldies Band". She performed with the band at many area care centers. Pearl is survived by her son, Lynn ‘John' (Diane) Buhl of Genoa, granddaughter, Kristin Buhl (Mark) Peterson of Omaha, step-grandchildren, Lori Augustyn Riha, Kimberly Augustyn, Philip (Jennifer) Augustyn, Jeffrey (Rochelle) Littelman, Sidney and Delaney Peterson – all of Omaha, step great-grandchildren, Danny Riha, Lily and Lexi Augustyn of Omaha. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Buhl, parents, Henning and Hannah Bergstrom, infant half-sister, Jennie Bergstrom and numerous aunts and uncles.
