Pearl Ethel Jensen was born September 27, 1923, to Hans and Elvera (Hanson) Boesen on a farm three miles north of Boelus near Rockville, Nebraska. She began school in Boelus until the third grade. Her family moved to a farm in the Fairview neighborhood of Greeley County, Nebraska on March 1, 1933, where she finished her education. Pearl helped her dad on the farm and did domestic work for her friends and neighbors. She was always willing to help others in the area. She was also a waitress for a time at the Scotia Café until she married Jen P. "Jimmy" Jensen on May 4, 1947, in St. Paul, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Seward, Nebraska in November of the same year and remained there for four years. While in Seward, they were blessed with 3 children, Wanda, Gaylord and Merle who died at birth. In December of 1950, they purchased the family farm nine miles south of Greeley where they lived for 46 years until they retired and moved to St. Paul. While on the farm, Pearl was a member of the Salem Methodist Church east of Scotia. She was a Sunday School teacher and a 4H leader for many years. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Busy Bee Club. She has been a permanent member of the VFW, DAV, and the American Legion. Her husband, Jimmy, passed away February 14, 1997. Pearl continued to live in St. Paul until her health caused her to move closer to her children and doctors. She moved to Grand View Apartments in Grand Island until she had to move into an assisted living complex at Bickford Cottage, and finally to Cambridge Court in Kearney. She helped with bingo at The Heritage Living Center as well as the Historical Village. Pearl loved to bowl and bowled twice a week for years until she was unable to do so. Pearl also enjoyed dancing. She was a part of the club of "Just Us Girls" and volunteered for several other organizations. Pearl was always happy to be of help to others. She also enjoyed sewing and being a farm wife and especially enjoyed all her grandkids and great grandkids. Those left to cherish her memory include daughter-in-law, Jean Jensen of Kearney; a daughter, Wanda Stenka of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Arley and Helen Boesen of Philips. As well as six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy in 1997; son, Merle James at birth; son, Gaylord Leroy in 2018; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Junior Vance, and Velma and Ray Stern; three brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Nis and Sena Bennetzen, Wayne and Kjestine Howery, and Alvin Jensen.
