Description	:	Born Jan. 22, 1923, in Pingree N.D., to Lester and Edna Thur. She was the 6th of 11 children and the last surviving child. She moved to Walla Walla in 1942 to marry Richard “Dick” Burley on Valentine’s Day, as he was stationed briefly in Walla Walla but shipped out to Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and the Solomon Islands during WWll. Read More	Born Jan. 22, 1923, in Pingree N.D., to Lester and Edna Thur. She was the 6th of 11 children and the last surviving child. She moved to Walla Walla in 1942 to marry Richard “Dick” Burley on Valentine’s Day, as he was stationed briefly in Walla Walla but shipped out to Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and the Solomon Islands during WWll. Pearl worked at the Book Nook and was a land to sea telephone operator while she waited for his return 3 years later. They loved raising their family and all seven of the children were baptized in the same Presbyterian Church in which they were married. Pearl loved being a wife and mother. She enjoyed traveling, and she and Dick frequently flew a Cessna plane to different parts of the nation. They often took their children on these trips. She was also able to experience numerous foreign lands through their commitment to Rotary International. She enjoyed the out of doors and loved gardening. She liked to fish and hunt with her husband often taking a picnic with all seven children to Newman Lake. Pearl waited for her children to grow up and spread their wings until she could get her Nursing Degree and went to work at St. Mary’s Hospital as an RN until her retirement. In 1991, Pearl saw a 60 Minutes program about the orphanages in Romania. Although she was 68 years young, she indeed went to Romania and worked with five orphanages for several years. With the help of the Canadian and Walla Walla Rotarians many children’s lives were touched by Pearl and her love and care. Even at the age of 73, she continued collecting clothing, medicine and supplies for children in both Romania and Peru. She is survived by her children, Cherie (Jerry) Williams, Charmaine (Rick) Courson, SanDee Fry, Roxanne Jarvinen, Steve Burley, Cindi Schaffer and Colleen “Cricket” (Vern) Myrick.
