Description	:	Pearl was the 2nd child and son born to Jesse Ernest and Bula (Elswick) Smith. He and his older, Jesse Ernest Jr., and younger brother were all born while Jess and Bula lived on a farm he inherited from his father which was a few miles from Albia. He also had 3 older half brothers by Jesse's marriage to Anna Magdalene Broshar. They were Leo Scott b.1900 d,1985, Leonard Broshar b.1907 d.1944, and Lester Leroy b.1909 d, 2004. He also had 3 older half brothers by Jesse's marriage to Anna Magdalene Broshar. They were Leo Scott b.1900 d,1985, Leonard Broshar b.1907 d.1944, and Lester Leroy b.1909 d, 2004. Also a half sister, Aleafa Leone b.1898 d. 1993, by Jesse's brief first marriage to Mary E. Platt. His younger brother, who is the only one left, said that Pearl was a mechanic who had worked for an Oldsmobile and a Chrysler dealership and then started his own garage. His first marriage was in Knoxville, Marion Co., Ia. and produced 2 sons, both born in Oskaloosa, Ia.. The oldest son, Brian Keith b.1960 d. 1997 of cancer. They divorced and he later married Peggy Ann Long on 30 Mar.,1968 in Colorado Springs, Co. and they had 1 daughter. His brother tells me that Peggy had twin boys and 2 daughter by a pervious marriage and that one of the girls died a while back with cancer. While in Colorado, Pearl drove a truck for 20 years or more. His 2 brothers came to Co. when he was in the hospital and arrived about the same time. He had been on life support for some time and when the took him off, he passed soon after.
