Read More	Mrs. Alva Bissell passed away at her home in Corning, at 1200 Quincy Street, Tuesday morning, April 11, 1944, following an illness of over a year, during which all that was humanly possibly had been done to relieve her suffering. She was a patient cheerful sufferer, interested to the last in all that concerned her family and friends. During the past months she has been cared for in her home by her daughter, Mrs. Florence James, returning to her own home for her last days among her family. She will be greatly missed by her friends, who sympathize with the family in their deep loss. Mrs. Bissell devoted her entire life and energy to her family and grandchildren, always remembering them in kindly, motherly ways, so endearing to those near and dear. Pearl May Morgan was born in Braymer, Missouri on September 10, 1877, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Morgan. Her marriage to Alva Bissell took place in Woodward, Oklahoma on January 9, 1895 and they were privileged to live together until July of last year. Most of their early married life was spent in Oklahoma during the pioneer era and where they raised their family, lacking many modern conveniences, as well as necessities. In 1915, the family moved to Cass County, Iowa, where they were raised until 1936, moving to Corning, in the home here they both passed away. Eleven children survive the mother: Esther Casteel, Claude Bissell, Edna Scott, Ansel Bissell, Florence James, Ivan Bissell, Raymond Bissell, Cleda Paul, Iada McKee, Alma Schrader, and Huber Bissell. A grandson, Kenneth Bissell, had been at home with his grandparents for the past twelve years. Two brothers also survive, Lewis Morgan, Booker, texas, and Levi Morgan, and a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bissell had no sisters, but her cousin, Dr. Alice Whittenburg, who survives, was like the sister that she never had. Mrs. Bissell was a member of the Christian Church and lived her faith in all her associations and deeds. She was very proud to have grandsons serving in the Armed Forces who are Leo Bissell, son of Ansel Bissell, in England; Gerald Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vern Scott at Camp Leonard Wood, Missouri; Donald Schrader, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Schrader, Camp Roberts, Calif.; and Eddis Conrad, at Camp Leonard Wood, a son-in-law of Claude Bissell. Funeral services were held Friday, April 14, 1944 in the Christian Church at Massena, Iowa at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. E. F. Hagee in charge. Internment was made in the Massena Center Cemetery. Pall bearers were Merlin James, Vern Scott, George Schrader, Claude Paul, Bill Casteel and Rex McKee. Music was rendered by Earl Hastings, Clayton Mountain, Mrs. Bess Rhine, Mrs. Harry McKee, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Bob Peel.
