He was naturalized on 1 Nov 1890 in Sioux City, Woodbury, Iowa as Peder Olsen. He died on 11 Nov 1930 at Obert, Nebraska. He was buried on 13 Nov 1930 in Obert Cemetery, Cedar County Nebraska. Rev O. C. Harang officiated. Peder and Caroline built the house on their farm, they lived in a dug out behind the once existing house. Whether it was a sod wall is debatable. If so, some of the early ways of cutting sod for sod houses was to use a plow with a grass hopper blade. It cut sod 4 Inches thick and 10 inches wide, then it was cut into brick-like size and layed in the walls. The roof of the dug-out was covered with dirt. It had a door and windows as such. The winters were very cold and lots of snow. They used to go out the window many times because the door was blocked with snow. Tunneling through the snow was one of the ways of getting out the door in the winter time. Bio for Peder written by one of his sons. From the OBIT: Well Known farmer East of Wynot found dead in his bed. (Nov 11, 1930) He passed away apparently from heart failure sometime during the night. Mr Klanderud had been in declining health for some time, but refused to call medical aid, thinking that he would get better. He retired Tuesday evening apparently feeling as well if not better than usual. his wife had of late been accustomed to get up in the morning and do the chores about the place, letting her husband rest in the morning. Wednesday morning, as her husband did not arise at his usual time, she went to his room and discovered that he had passed away. Dr Tellesen was called, but nothing could be done and it was evident that he had been dead for several hours. Born in Norway, he would have been 75 years old had he survived until Next July. he came to America at the age of about 29 years and was married in Sioux City, Iowa. After about 4 years they came to Cedar County and located on a farm east of here where they have resided most of their time. Seven children were born to the couple and three of them are dead. Surviving children are Oscar of Obert, Arthur of Flandreau, SD, Carl and Mrs Mabel Klanderud of Wynot. There are 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his widow and four brothers, Manuel who resides North of Obert, Ole of California, Charles and Arnt still residing in Norway. Mr Klanderud was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, an honorable citizen and had the respect and confidence of his neighbors and friends. His sudden demise was a shock to the community and the family will have the sympathy of all in their great bereavement and the loss of a loyal husband and loving father. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran Church in Obert Friday afternoon in charge of the Jones mortuary. Burial will be in the Obert Cemetery. Peder and Caroline (Hansen) Klanderud had the following children: Baby who died at birth, Oscar, drowned in rain barrel. Mary, born 1889 married Charlie Faulk and died in childbirth 1911. Oscar (second child named Oscar) born 1891 and married Ella Thompson, Arthur born 1893, married May Taylor. Carl born 1895, married Anna Nygaard, Mabel born 1898, married Russell Campbell. Peder and Caroline's child Mary was listed in Paragon School Census for 3 years, 1895, 1896, 1897 and Oscar in Paragon school census age 6 for year 1897. So the family lived for a time in the Paragon community North East of Hartington Nebraska, before moving to Brooky Bottom north of Obert, Nebraska. Peder and Caroline were married Dec 17, 1884 in Woodbury Co, Sioux City, Iowa,(per marriage cert, Peder was married as Peder Olson. Norwegian records have immigration in 1882. The first 5 children were born in Sioux City, Iowa. We do not know when he started using the Klanderud name, which was a farm/town name in Norway. The Olsen/son name was son on the marriage and naturalization record, but is sen in all the Norwegian records.
