Description	:	Peggy Deane (Long) Kresse died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Garfield County Memorial Hospital in Pomeroy. She was 79. Peggy was born July 15, 1929, in Long Creek, Ore., to Sherman and Hazel Long. She moved with her family numerous times during her childhood, including time in eastern Washington, Oregon and western Montana. Among her most memorable times was the stint she spent in Sheridan, Mont., where her father tried his hand at gold mining and sheep herding. Read More	Peggy Deane (Long) Kresse died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Garfield County Memorial Hospital in Pomeroy. She was 79. Peggy was born July 15, 1929, in Long Creek, Ore., to Sherman and Hazel Long. She moved with her family numerous times during her childhood, including time in eastern Washington, Oregon and western Montana. Among her most memorable times was the stint she spent in Sheridan, Mont., where her father tried his hand at gold mining and sheep herding. During the summers as a teenager, she would stay with her sister, Doris Dixon, in Garfield County to help with harvest. It was there, shortly after World War II, that she met Irwin (Jim) Kresse. They courted over the next few summers and married in Sunnyside, Wash., on June 5, 1949. They moved to Pomeroy where they raised two children. Peggy worked at the Pataha Store and Martin's Thrift as a cashier. She retired from work in the 1970s to become a homemaker. Peggy was an avid reader, gardener and birdwatcher. Over the years she took part in bowling leagues, trapshooting and assembled a fairly impressive collection of brass art. She was a proud and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law of Olympia, Washington; a daughter and son-in-law,of Meridian, Idaho; a sister and brother-in-law,of Clarkston, Idaho; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and sisters Doris, Dorine, Ruby, Hope and Evelyn. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday July 27th at the Pataha Prairie Cemetery south of Pomeroy.
