Description	:	Peggy J. Howsden, 81, of Grand Island went to her Heavenly home on Friday, July 10, 2015, at Grand Island Veterans Home. Celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Bainbridge Cemetery near Huntley. Pastor Jay Towel will officiate. Mrs. Howsden was born May 17, 1934, at Benkelman, the daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (Hauser) Scott. Survivors include her children and spouses, William and Susan Howsden of Lincoln, Barry Howsden of Santa Barbara, Calif., Blake and Shelly Howsden of Oshkosh, Bret Howsden of Lincoln, Shelley and Duane Burney of McPherson, Kan., and Samantha and Calvin Hubbard of Grand Island; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Anne Raile. She is preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Howsden; her parents; and a daughter, Stephanie. Peggy was homecoming queen the fall of 1951 and graduated valedictorian in May 1952 from Benkelman High School. In the fall of 1953, she was homecoming queen at McCook Community College and she graduated from there in 1954. She taught at Haigler and Benkelman before marrying Loyd Howsden on Jan. 11, 1958. They moved to a farm outside of Huntley and had seven children. While baking, cooking, and sewing for her large family, she also earned her Master’s degree in counseling as well as her specialist’s degree in school psychology from Kearney State College. She taught a few years in area schools, but finished her teaching career at Beaver Valley Public Schools and Stratton Public Schools, where she taught many subjects such as art, Spanish, and speech, as well as served as the school counselor. Peggy was a proud Daughter of the American Revolution, member of the P.E.O., loved playing duplicate bridge and was a gifted pianist.
