Description	:	OBIT: Percy R. May, well known in this community, where he has resided since boyhood, was struck by an engine on the Iowa Central Wednesday evening and killed. Details of the accident are very meager, but it seems that he was walking on the tracks, just north of Lacey. One train had passed him when he again stepped onto the track; the engineer of the second train whistled and he stepped onto the ties but not far enough in the cylinder head struck him in the left breast. May, well known in this community, where he has resided since boyhood, was struck by an engine on the Iowa Central Wednesday evening and killed. Details of the accident are very meager, but it seems that he was walking on the tracks, just north of Lacey. One train had passed him when he again stepped onto the track; the engineer of the second train whistled and he stepped onto the ties but not far enough in the cylinder head struck him in the left breast. The train was stopped in the injured man taken on board, but he never regained consciousness and died just as the train reached Oskaloosa. The remains were brought to Eddyville for internment. The young man had been invalid for the past year and had just returned from treatment at the hospital at Mt. Pleasant. Monday he disappeared from home and his parents were seeking for information on him all places where he would most likely have gone, but found no trace of him until they were notified of his death. *************************************** Died: Percy R. May, Wednesday, July 3, 1901, aged 20 years, six months and 20 days. The funeral services were held from Christian church, Friday, July 5 and the remains were interred in the family lot at Highland Cemetery, Rev. A.L. Criley officiating. Percy R. May was the son of Daniel and Melvina May, Was Born in Harrison Township, Mahaska County in 1880 and died from the result of an accident July 3, 1901. He has resided with his parents on the west side of the river until the spring, when the family removed to their new home near Stark station. Mr. and Mrs. May are among the most highly respected people in this community and have a sincere sympathy of all in their great affliction Eddyville Tribune, July 5, 1901
