He was retired as manager of the Waynesboro Western Auto Store where he worked for many years, receiving numerous awards for outstanding achievements. He served in the 34th Infantry Division in World War II as a technical sergeant. He was born May 11,1920 in Schuyler,Albemarle County,Virginia. He was retired as manager of the Waynesboro Western Auto Store where he worked for many years, receiving numerous awards for outstanding achievements. He served in the 34th Infantry Division in World War II as a technical sergeant. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, prior to a stroke suffered nine years ago, he loved gardening and cultivating fruit trees and was accomplished in woodworking, furniture refinishing, chair caning and clock making. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ira and Julia Goin Wheeler; brother, Albert Wheeler, Herbert Wheeler, Early Wheeler; sisters, Gertrude Massie, Ruth Fitzgerald, Lee Santmeyers, and Lila Bryant. Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathryn Fultz Wheeler; a sister Marie Thomas of Charlottesville; brother, George Wheeler of Scottsville; one son, Philip Wheeler and daughter-in-law Rela of Silver Spring, MD; one daughter, Carol Wheeler Green of Wise; three grandsons; Patrick Wheeler and his wife Natasha of Charlottesville; Scott Wheeler of Silver Springs, Md; their mother, Kathy Umbdenstock Wheeler of Charlottesville, and Christopher Green of Wise; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Wheeler of Charlottesville. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, Steeler Tavern, with the Rev. William G. Wilson and David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, 301 S. Wayne Ave., Waynesboro, va. 22980. The Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington is handling the arrangements.
