OSBORN Mrs. Permelia Osborn, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died in Winterset last Thursday, May 17th, at the home of her son, Jed Osborn. Death came on her eighty-first birthday. Her final illness was brief. Mrs. Osborn was born Permelia Young near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1853. She was the daughter of Samuel R. and Sarah Roberts Young. When she was 12 years of age the family moved to Iowa, settling in Walnut township. In 1870 she was united in marriage to James M. Osborn, a Walnut township farmer. They lived in Walnut township, with the exception of a year spent in Illinois, until Mr. Osborns death in 1911. Mr. and Mrs. Osborn were the parents of 11 children. They were Lorena of Des Moines, Kenton of Jerome, Idaho, Frank of Morgan Hill, California, Mina who died in 1906, Jed of Winterset, Sam of Winterset, Jesse of Jerome, Idaho, Darwin of Franklin, Minnesota, Earl of Peru, Lawrence of St. Charles, and Ethel of Osceola. In addition to the ten living children she is survived by forty-nine grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. W. N. Baker of Peru, and two brothers, W. S. Young of Winterset and Frank Young of Norton, Kansas. As a child Mrs. Osborn united with the church in Pennsylvania. After moving here she placed her membership in the Christian church of Peru, later transferring to the Winterset Church of Christ. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H. L. Olmstead at the Winterset Church of Christ on Sunday, May 20th. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
