Description	:	Permelia Howe was born on June 24, 1857, near Center Point, She was a twin daughter of Nelson and Margaret Howe, who were pioneer residents of this vicinity. She is well known to Otter Creek residents as she has spent her entire life in and around Lafayette. She became a member of the Church of Christ early in life and has always kept her faith in Christ. Read More	Permelia Howe was born on June 24, 1857, near Center Point, She was a twin daughter of Nelson and Margaret Howe, who were pioneer residents of this vicinity. She is well known to Otter Creek residents as she has spent her entire life in and around Lafayette. She became a member of the Church of Christ early in life and has always kept her faith in Christ. She was united in marriage to George W Smith, September 28, 1876. To this union was born three children, John O Smith of Lisbon, Mrs L W Heefner of Lafayette and Mrs C Ritze of Toddville, who was killed in the accident at Louisa Crossing, October 21. Her husband also preceded her to the better world, October 21, 1899. Mrs Smith has had failing health for the past 18 months and was taken to St Luke’s Hospital last September for a thorough examination which revealed a cancerous condition that proved to be too serious for an operation which they had hoped might cause her to recover her health. Her critical illness prevented her removal from the hospital. The best medical skill and kindly ministration of loved ones proved in vain and on Sunday morning at 3 o’clock, February 5, she passed out of this life to be with those who had gone before. In the days to come she will be greatly missed by her two surviving children, two brothers, Morris N Howe of California and William Howe of Foley, Minnesota, and one sister, Mrs Richard McNiel of Center Point, besides a large number of distant relatives and friends.
