Description	:	Permelia Jones, Daughter of Thomas M. and Telitha Jones was born in Casey County, Kentucky, Jan. 31,1846. She passed to the life beyond Feb. 8, 1921, aged 75 years, 9 days. She came to Kansas April 1865 with her parents.While she was still in the depot at North Lawrence the train came in draped in mourning for the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. She always spoke of this as the firstevent to be remembered in connection with their arrival in Kansas. On Oct. 14, 1869 she was united in marriage to Jonah Sturdy, who died Aug. 26, 1910. To this union five children wereborn: Alice, Edward, and Stanleywho died in early childhood, and Mrs. Anna Andrews and Lemuel Sturdy who are left to mourn their mother's death. Two grandchildren and two sisters and three brothers are living. Mrs. Sturdy was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at Bethel Ridge, Kentucky, when about 15 years of age. She joined the church of Blue Mound school house. After a few years the Coal Creek school house was built and church was held there for a number of years, until the church at Vinland was built, of which she had been an active member ever since. She was a very sincere Christian, very strong in her faith. She was a great student of the Bible, believing absolutly in its teachings. She had been in failing health for several years. She was with her daughter, Mrs. A.W. Andrews, during her last illness which lasted eleven weeks. She was confined to her chair most of the time. She suffered very much but bore it with patience. she took great comfort in having her children and grandchildren about her in her last days, after speaking words of comfort and cheer to them. She has gone to the beautiful home beyond. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Vinland. Dr. Allison of baldwin had charge of the services. Interment was made in the Vinland cemetery.
