Read More	Excerpts from Obituary: Sabula Gazette - April 28, 1888 Mrs. Permelia Kellogg was the oldest daughter of John and Hannah Watts, who at the time of her birth, May 9th, 1848, resided at the old home in Mt. Algor. Her mother, who was the daughter of a Canadian minister, was a woman of refinement and intelligence, and left in the souls of her children the traits of the noble characteristics which were hers. Her early death, July 3, 1855, was an irreparable loss to her children. In her early life, Mrs. Kellogg received a good practical education, which fitted her for her life work. As the oldest daughter in her father's home she bore many of the burdens and added to the joys of the family. As teacher in the school room she was conscientious and faithful, sewing good seeds of truth. In the year 1873, March 12th, she entered upon a new field of usefulness through her marriage with W.S. Kellogg, the husband who mourns her loss. In the fifteen years they journeyed together, not a word of discord or unkindness ever passed between them. Her pleasant surroundings had a tendency to prolong a life which, for two years had been wasting away. she well knew her physical condition and that her days were few and numbered, and improved them in the society of her family and her dear friends. She visited at the old home only two weeks before the end of the race. She went about the house and attended to domestic duties until within three days of the eventful mourning. The disease which affected her lungs appeared to increase its force as the budding springtime came and on the night of April 27th, the anxious husband, though bidden by her to rest in sleep kept close watch and before the midnight hour arrived the messenger was announced, and at 2:30 am., April 28, 1888, he bore her pure spirit away to a peaceful shore. Mrs. Kellogg leaves a family of four children, two girls and two boys; the oldest is a daughter 14 years old, the youngest is a sweet little girl of seven summers. Funeral services were held on Monday both at the house and at the M.E. church. Notwithstanding the inclement weather the church was filled and indeed crowded by friends from every direction who came to honor the memory of the departed. Alf Scofield Post and the Ladies Post Aid Society were prominent in making the arrangements for the last obsequies. Rev. U. Z. Gilmer and Rev. N. A. Kimball officiated. The loved one's last resting place in Miles cemetery bore marks of more than friendly regard. The cheerful evergreen lining, indicating everlasting life and lasting remembrance, robbed the closing scene of the last sad rites of its gloom.
