Parke had joined the unreturning majority. Read More	DEATH OF P. C. PARKE While his demise was not wholly unexpected, still it was with feelings of deep regret and sorrow that our community heard on Monday morning that P. C. Parke had joined the unreturning majority. Mr. Parke was a familiar and important figure in the early history and development of our county, and gave unsparingly of his energies toward the upbuilding and welfare of our community. He was called upon to occupy many positions of prominence and trust and discharged their duties with fidelity and honor. A few years ago he met with a serious and painful accident the effects of which undermined his health and strength and marked the beginning of a decline that, proceeding steadily, eventuated in the occasion of this notice. He lived respected, and died lamented by the whole community. The following notice formed a part of Rev. Hunt's remarks at his funeral: P. C. Parke was born in Lincoln County, Missouri on December 22, 1829 and died in Canton, S. D. May 5, 1913. He was married to Olive M. Mitchell, July 4, 1852 and to them were born eight children, three of whom have gone on before. The widow and the following children, Alah M. of Valley Springs, Cal., Mrs. A. J. Darling, of Harrisburg, S. D., Mrs. Frank Cotant, of Weta, S. D., Mrs. Fred Smith, of Canton, S. D., and Wm. C. Parke of Weta, S. D., remain to mourn his loss. He moved to Iowa with his parents when but ten years of age and remained there until he moved to Lincoln County, S. Dak. in 1870 where he has since resided. He has been a useful citizen having served as County Commissioner and has also held other positions of trust in public service. Many friends sympathize with the family in their bereavement. Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. Fred Smith, May 7, at 11:00 a.m. by the pastor of the Methodist church in Canton and the body laid to rest in Forest Hill cemetery.
