He was born May 3,1917, at Amy the son of Perry C. and Betty Mae (Bickers) Owen. He graduated from Dighton High School in 1935 and attended Kansas State University Mr. Owen served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. After his discharge from the service, he worked in Hattiesburg, Miss., until moving back to Lane County in 1947. He was a farmer and stockman and had served as Lane County Assessor for 20 years. He was a charter member of Amy Baptist Church, a member of First Christian Church, Dighton, a 50-year member of Dighton American Legion Post No. 190, was Blaine Township trustee for 50 years, and helped organize and volunteered on the Lane County Rural Fire Department for 25 years. He served on the Lane County A.S.C.S. Board for nine years, was past master and a 50-year member of arney Masonic Lodge No. 279, was past patron of Order of the Eastern Star, received his 25-year pin from the Shriners in 1997, served on the Lane County Cemetery Board for more than 50 years, and was on the Amy and Dighton school boards. His special interests were farm activities and bowling. activities and bowling. On May 3, 1946, he married Martha Elaine Breland at Hattiesburg. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Candita Bock, Lake Oswego, Ore.; a son, Kerry A. Owen, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dean Owen. Memorials are suggested to the Barney Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund or First Christian Church, both in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Garden City Telegram April 16, 2001
