There Peter Bowerman is supposed to have accumulated considerable wealth by purchasing slaves in the North and driving them to Southern markets. Based on "A History of Blount County, Tennessee" by Inez Burns, Peter Bowerman was in Blount County, Tennessee as early as February 7, 1794 since "Peter Bowerman, a soldier in Captain Singleton's Company of militia, was fired on by three Indians near Wells Station. One ball struck his hunting shirt." Also in 1813, Bowerman was operating a still (mill?) on Bowerman's Creek, also known as Ishes. It is possible that Bowerman took over Elizabeth Ishe's Mill. This mill or its successor was later known as the Johnson or Mahoney Mill which stood on the road to Friendsville. Peter Bowerman died in Blount County, Tennessee prior to May 3, 1835. He was born ca. 1760. His sons Henry and Michael were named executors of the estate. His daughter Sallie married to John Jefferson Hoover received the "plantation." It is interesting to note that Catharine Meiser's brother Frederick Meiser 4/9 also referred in his will to his "plantation" in Meiserville, Pennsylvania. CHILDREN: 5/1 Michael Bowerman, born ca. 1781; died May -, 1861. 5/2 Sarah (Sallie) Bowerman, born May 12, 1802; died May -, 1842; married John Jefferson Hoover, born April 29, 1818; died May 29, 1842. (married Sept. 4, 1834). 6/1 Henry Hoover 5/3 Henry Bowerman, died 1855. 6/1 Michael Bowerman; married Sarah Blackwell.
