I'm choosing the most common spelling used by his descendants, even though it's not what is on his tombstone. Peter's birth year is also problematical. It varies wildly in 6 census years, all the way from birth in 1810 to 1821. But the 1900 census says December 1813, so that's what I'm showing. OBITUARY: Peter Warring died at his home last Saturday, March 16 (1901) on account of extreme old age as much as any other cause, in his 93rd year, at his home a few miles north east of town. The funeral took place Sunday at 2 O'clock, Rev. Mosesworth officiating, after which the body was laid away in the Knauss Cemetery. Mr. Warring came to Harrison County (Iowa) something like 20 years ago, and beyond that there is little of him known, except that he was born in Connecticut, December 31, 1808. He was married to Delia E. Burton January 14, 1849 in Madison County, NY. His life here has been that of an honest and upright citizen, ever trying to exemplify the true principles of manhood. He leaves a wife and children to mourn his death all of whom have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
