Peterson Held Friday Afternoon Fell from a Hay Mow And Instantly Killed Mr. Peter Erick Peterson was born in Safsnas, Fahlun, Sweden, March 13, 1846. He immigrated to America in 1868 and settled in Boone County, where he later purchased a farm in Marcy township and resided there ever since. He was united in marriage December 18, 1875 to Miss Augusta Nystrom. To this union ten children were born, six sons and four daughters. A son and daughter died in infancy. The remaining ones are Mrs. Guy (Selma Amelia) Hostetler of Waterloo; Mrs. Ellis (Julia) Engleen and Mrs. Elmer (Ida) Swanson, both of March Township; Frank, Anton, Arthur, Levi, and Reuben, at home. He fell from the hay mow and was killed September 16, 1908, at the age of 62 years, 6 months, and 3 days. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, September 18. Short services were held at the house, after which the remains were taken to the Lutheran church where a sermon was preached by the Rev. C.A. Johnson, the choir singing two songs and Rev. Johnson a solo. The body was interred in the nearby cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife and eight children, a brother, A.J. Pearson of Moingona, and several brothers in Sweden. His wife and children have the sincere sympathy of friends and neighbors in this their sad affliction. NOTE: Two Boone County, Iowa obituaries state Peter Erick Peterson died March 13, 1846. His headstone reads March 31, 1845, thus a conflict of dates. I am using the March 13, 1846 date for now. Also, the name of the remaining brother is being further investigated. One newspaper states his name is P.J. Peterson, this one states A.J. Pearson, thus another conflict. No full name is known at this date.
