On 3 January 1865 Peter enlisted as Private for service in the Civil War in Company F; Fifteenth Illinois Volunteer He was mustered out on 1 March 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. BIOGRAPHY - by Richard Marker: ************************* After their marriage, Peter and Charlotte moved to Ogle County in Illinois. During 1870 the family moved to Iowa where In 1876 they were living at Conrad in Grundy County, Iowa. Then in 1887 the family settled at Herdland Township in Clay County, Iowa where Peter bought a half section of land, three miles west and two miles north of where the town of Webb was to be. This was the beginning of five generations of the Marker family being a part of the Webb community in Clay County. In the history of Webb, Peter is mentioned as being one of the Pioneers. The original farm is still owned by descendants of Peter and Charlotte Marker. Pine trees planted around 1890 by Peter and his son, Charles, still grow on the farm. It is said that Peter was short tempered and perhaps had a mean streak. During an argument with one of his older sons, Peter broke a chair over the sons' head; and at that time, the son left for Washington state. It has also been said that Peter never saw any of his grandchildren. *********************
