He moved to Will County, Illinois at the age of twenty-two and was married at the age of thirty of Miss Angelina Wallace. He moved to Dawson Township, Greene County, Iowa in the spring of 1882, where he resided until his death. From his infancy he was connected with the Presbyterian Church, save for a short time after moving to Illinois. He entered into full communion with, and was elected an elder of the church in Will, Illinois. On moving to Greene County, he connected himself with the Presbyterian church at Paton and remained a consistent working member until his death, which occurred at his home May 19 at half past five. He leaves a wife and three children. With Mr. Grant, life was a preparation for death. Through the long weeks of pain which preceded his death, as he watched the silent but certain approach of his enemy, his consolation and his great joy was in the certain knowledge that One mightier than he had met and conquered his for, leading the captor captive.
