Fishel, for many years a resident of Linn county, died at his home on the corner of Ninth avenue and Eighth street Sunday morning at 8:30. He had been in very poor health for several years. Fishel, for many years a resident of Linn county, died at his home on the corner of Ninth avenue and Eighth street Sunday morning at 8:30. He had been in very poor health for several years. Mr. Fishel was born in Ohio, Jan. 24, 1839. At the age of 26 he came to Iowa, having been married before emigrating. He lived on a farm near Robins about 30 years, then moved to Marion and has lived here about 12 years. He is survived by his wife, a brother and sister in Ohio; a sister in Illinois and six children: Mrs. J.R. Good, Waterloo; Mrs. C.O. Wilson, Cedar Rapids; F.H. Fishel, Mt Vernon; Mrs. Albert Zachery, Alburnett; Mrs. Inez Helbig, Marion; and Mrs. J.A. Miles, Robins. Mr. Fishel always took an interest in public affairs and was a representative citizen. Funeral services will be held from the Marion Methodist church Tuesday at 2:30 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Van Horne of Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery. *Son of Michael Fishel and Anna Hummon Fishel, natives of PA. From Ann Hummon: June 1862 he enlisted for services as a member of Company G Eighty-seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry, under Captain Samuel Huber and Colonel HB Baning, the last of June was attached to General Wools division of the Army of the Potomac, in September 1862 was on of the twelve thousand prisoners captured by Stonewall Jackson, he was exchanged 3 days later and discharged as a paroled prisnor returning home in Oct 1862 He was elected captain of Company A Second Regiment Ohio State Militia and promoted to the rank of colonel in the fall of 1863.
