Description	:	Peter Helten, one of the well known farmers of south of Masonville, passed away, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Michael Cooney, near Masonville, on Thursday, August 5th, 1915, after an illness of a years's duration.Mr. Helten was born in Prussia, on December 28th, 1826, and spent his boyhood days in his native country. Read More	Peter Helten, one of the well known farmers of south of Masonville, passed away, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Michael Cooney, near Masonville, on Thursday, August 5th, 1915, after an illness of a years's duration.Mr. Helten was born in Prussia, on December 28th, 1826, and spent his boyhood days in his native country. As a young man he came to America and settled in New York. He remained there for a short time and then came west, settling on a farm in the state of Ohio. About fifty years ago he came further west and located on a farm one mile south of Winthrop, where he lived for many years, carrying on his farming operations in a most successful manner.Mrs. Helten passed away at the family home in October, 1901. Mr. Helten is survived by the following children: Peter Helten and Hubert Helten, and Mrs. John Bibby, all of Winthrop; and Mrs. Michael Cooney of near Masonville.Funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Masonville Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. Father Lonergan. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery near that place.Mr. Helten was a man of quiet and unassuming manner, and by reason of his kindly nature and honorable methods of dealing with his neighbor and associates he won the esteem of everyone. By careful management and hard work he gathered together a neat competence. In his death the children suffer the loss of a kind father, and the community, so long his home, loses one of its honored citizens. Manchester Democrat - Manchester, Iowa - August 11, 1915
