Description	:	Peter J. Thielen, 92, of Humboldt, Iowa, died Sunday, November 25, 2001, at the Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt. Survivors include three brothers, Matt Thielen, and wife, Isabel, Eagle Grove, Iowa, Joseph Thielen, and wife, Myrtle, Eagle Grove, and Tony Thielen, and wife, Dorothy, Patavia; one sister, Betty Glow, Storm Lake, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Tade, and Ray; and one sister, Coletta. Memorial services were held Tuesday, November 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Church with the Reverend Eugene Ulses Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial was held at St. Joseph's Mission Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Peter J. Thielen was born March 5, 1909, in Woolstock Township in Wright County, to Matthias and Mary Magadelena Wawers Thielen. He attended the Head Grove Country School. He worked as a farm laborer until 1936 when he enlisted in the U.S. Cavalry until his discharge in 1940. In 1941, he was called back to active duty where he served as Mess Sergeant He was severely injured in a military accident later in 1941. He spent 6 months in the Army Hospital in Spearfish, S. D. He received his discharge in 1942. He then moved to Long Beach, Calif., where he served with the Fire Department, earning the rank of Captain. He returned to Eagle Grove in 1946 and opened "Wimpy's Cafe" with his brother, Joe. After he left the restaurant, he worked in maintenance at the Webster City Hospital for several years and then at the Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He spent his final working years as a custodian in the Fort Dodge School system. His last years were spent in the Humboldt area.
